3/4/13 Penjajawoc to Old Rail Bed
Light snow with rain predicted- again. So we picked a nearby trail, starting at the Penjajawoc Grasslands at the end of Fox Hollow Rd. ( not on the map above ). Though it was not very cold it was windy out in the open and felt colder than it was.
Once we reached the snowmobile trail and were in the woods it was quite pleasant. There was more snow than expected following the days of above freezing temps and the light rain.
Once we got to the rail bed the walking was easy and, once again, a small amount of wet sticky snow made a winter wonderland.
We followed the rail bed a bit past the entrance to City Forest and then turned back. As usual Kelley wanted to go into the forest and go back on the West Trail - she knows there is a good chance to meet people and dogs but today only one man and his dog. And this meant we would have to take the small trail ( added to map) across to the rail bed and no one had been on it recently. There was a fair amount of snow and a bit of slogging but the trail is short. All in all a pleasant 2 1/4 hour hike.
