Finding Trail Descriptions

So as not to repeat myself excessively, I am reducing the amount of description of trails that have already been posted. Please use the search function ( upper left) to find older posts which have more detailed trail descriptions and pictures. You can also use this to find specific hikes either by trail or mountain.

7/9/12 Bernard Mountain

A beautiful day so we headed for Acadia and some trails where we seldom or never meet others. We went up the West Ledge Trail and met 8 people, 3 more as we dropped down to Little Notch, nobody on the Sluiceway , but 5 on the South Face Trail which took us back to the West Ledge and back down to our car. Everyone was from out of state which made it even more unusual.

The summit of Bernard is wooded, without views but the West Ledge Trail is probably the most scenic of the Western Mountains offering views on the way up from large open ledges.

All of these trails were mostly dry - even the stream that runs along the Sluiceway had only small pools of water- so when we reached the bottom we drove the short distance to Seal Cove Pond so Kelley could have a real swim

A pleasant 3 hour hike even with all the people who were friendly and all liked Kelley. Kelly was very athletic, making jumps she normally doesn't and seemed a little gimpy when we got home. Some childrens aspirin and she was fine this morning
