Finding Trail Descriptions

So as not to repeat myself excessively, I am reducing the amount of description of trails that have already been posted. Please use the search function ( upper left) to find older posts which have more detailed trail descriptions and pictures. You can also use this to find specific hikes either by trail or mountain.

10/20//13 City Forest

We woke to a gray day with evidence of recent rain but by mid morning we had no rain and some sun along with the clouds and headed for City Forest. We started as usual from the end of Kittredge Rd. and walked   down to the pond. Looking across the meadow we could see that the fall color was coming to an end.

While Kelley had a swim in the beaver pond , I took a few pictures

Once in the woods I found this colorful fungus

and while many trees were bare, there was still some brilliant color

Walking north on the old rail bed you eventually came to a very marshy area and could not proceed without wading- in winter when it is frozen we can walk all the way to Forest Ave- today we turned back.

It doesn't have to be a pond- only large enough for her to get into it.

and, yet another lichen

Turned out to be a pleasant 2 hour outing- a bit windy but no rain and still shirt sleeve hiking. We met several friendly people who gave Kelley some attention and made her happy.

  1. Lovely red leaves. And I like the portrait of Kelley in the water. She looks very happy!

    1. Thanks Linda - she is happy when water is involved- unless it's a bath
