10/13/13 Sunkhaze
Another beautiful hiking day. A friend and her two dogs, Roxie and Gus, joined us on another exploration of Sunkhaze. We planned to walk down the McLaughlin Rd. ( gated but, apparently still sometimes used) to the end and another section of the refuge shown on the map which has a section of the stream. We passed several old woods roads ( to be explored at a later date) and a beaver pond
The road passed out of the refuge but then recrossed the easement and seemed to take us in the wrong direction. We ended up at a large meadow but no stream.
We turned back and tried one of the side trails but it did not take us where we wanted to either and we stopped for a break and snacks all around.

Another trail also sort of dead ended but looked worth further exploration beyond where it ended - also left that for another day.
We got back on the McLaughlin and headed back- near the end we met a group of people looking for a fishing spot and tried to help them out. Though we had not found what we were looking for it had been a good hike on a beautiful day. 4 hours

What an odd photo the next to last one is-- I like it, the colors and is that a rock under the ...leaves?
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting, Faith. Yes, a vine-like plant trailing across a rock.
