10/15/13 Little long Pond / Harbor Brook
Mostly cloudy but 60's and little wind so good hiking weather. When we were at the park a few days ago the Park Loop Road, camp grounds, etc. were closed but the parking lots on the public roads were open. Today we found saw horses and closed signs on the parking lots too. They are apparently enforcing the "closed" status. We were going to Little Long Pond which is not park property so it did not affect us.
This is, I think, Kelley's favorite hike because of the water and we usually meet several other dogs. We followed the trail along the pond to the Jordan Stream Trail and continued on that to the carriage road.
The water in the stream was low but it was still pretty.
We took carriage roads across to the Asticou-for a very short time we were on park property- and then took The Harbor Brook Trail back to Rte. 3. The water was low here too but there were plenty of pools deep enough for Kelley. From Rte. 3 we walked along the road the short distance to our parking spot. This had been a nice hike though we met no one after the people at the very start. 2 3/4 hours
