Finding Trail Descriptions

So as not to repeat myself excessively, I am reducing the amount of description of trails that have already been posted. 9/14/14 Tunk Mountain

Clouds and fog but supposed to clear so we headed over to Tunk. As we neared the coast the fog got thicker and I started thinking of doing the ponds rather than climb Tunk only to have no views. About 15 minutes before we got to the trail head the clouds and fog cleared and we had a nice sunny day.

Last time we tried the trail from Myrick Pond Rd. the deer flies drove us out- today there were none. This is the easiest of the trails up Tunk for Kelley with no problems for her on the way up though  there are a couple of work arounds once up on the ridge.

I really like this mountain for the long ridge and lovely views- it makes you feel you are on top of the world even though you are not that high.

 Apple break

Not attractive on the ground these Turkey Vultures are impressive in the air

We took a side trail which takes you to the north side of the ridge and these views. There is also a new wind farm in the distance but that picture did not come out well.

We walked to the point where the trial turns down to the ponds and met a nice man who lived nearby but had never climbed Tunk. Now that he was retired he was exploring where he hadn't had the time before.

We headed back the way we had come and enjoyed more of the view

A very nice hike on what turned out to be a beautiful day. 3 hours.

  1. Those Turkey Vultures are amazing animals. I can go for a jog on the beach and just smell the smallest amount of something that washed up dead and on my way back there will be a flock of them going at what ever it was--you never see them otherwise--I have no idea where they come from--and yes they can glide with the wind in amazing ways--but they are probably the ugliest looking things on the ground. Looks like your getting some nice clear and bug free days for a good change. How's the garden?

  3. Hi Tom

We have had a string of beautiful days- I think fall is my favorite time here. The garden is winding down- some things did well and some poorly- Still have lots of tomatoes on the vines and am hoping for a late frost. Take care.

  5. Hi John,

I see Turkey Vultures every day on my drive to town, but have never been close enough to get a shot (picture) from underneath when they are flying that was worth keeping. They are very wary around here. Did you use a telephoto lens?

  6. Hi jt

I had my 100mm macro lens. They ( half a dozen or so) were flying fairly close and kept circling- I thought maybe they were considering Kelley for lunch
