6/6/12 Newport-Dover-Foxcroft Rail Trail
Another day with rain predicted and with all the rain we have had we were looking for somewhere with good draining. The rail trail seemed a good candidate and was. The trail was mostly dry but there was lots of water along side and in the marshy areas for Kelley.
We started at the Dover-Foxcroft end and almost immediately you cross the Piscataquis River
Kelley soon found water to get into
We found lots of nice reflections
A Tiger Swallowtail- thanks John
Another stream we crossed
Wild Columbine
There were a lot of these and they were very small- about 1/2 " long
A Christmas tree farm we passed on the way home.
In spite of threatening clouds and a prediction of rain we managed a very nice 3 1/2 hour hike.
