Finding Trail Descriptions

So as not to repeat myself excessively, I am reducing the amount of description of trails that have already been posted. Please use the search function ( upper left) to find older posts which have more detailed trail descriptions and pictures. You can also use this to find specific hikes either by trail or mountain.

6/20/12 Marsh Island Natural area

Forecast is for temperatures in the 90s, high humidity, and rain. We got an early start to the nearby Marsh Island area in Orono. We started from Hillside Ave. and as usual were not able to follow the confusing trails ( many not on this map, very few markers at intersections, and many faded illegible markers on the trails). We just wandered for awhile and  then drove over to the trail head at the end of Penobscot St. ( Kelley did not want to get in the car, thinking it had been too short a hike). The trail along the river has not been improved since we were last there and it wasn't worth making Kelley work around the poor conditions. We did a little of the inland trail and then gave it up and headed back.

There were still some nice things to see

I'm not sure I can tell moths from butterflies but think this  may be a moth

The last two are from the trail along the river.

Not the best conditions but we got in an hour and a half so Kelley got her exercise- she was ready to get into the car the second time.
