A mixture of sun and clouds for some beautiful light. I had not done the trail from the motel end (trail signs and hiking books refer to the Greenwood Trail and motel but it is now the Moose Mountain Inn) in some time and Kelley had never done it. It was more rigorous than I remembered and there were several spots where Kelley had to find her own way around obstacles. The trail begins climbing through woods and then drops and rises several times with some ledge views along the way.
and then reaches Papoose Pond. The trail had been dry to this point and Kelley was happy to see water.
Just past Papoose Pond we took the Loop Trail around Little Moose Pond (the section is mostly flat until past Big Moose Pond where it climbs back up the mountain)
and along Big Moose Pond
One of the rare level sections above the ponds.
Along this section of the Loop Trail is an overlook with spectacular views of the ponds and surrounding mountains
A beautiful day for a good hike-4-3/4 hours
