7/8/10 Hunters Brook Loop

Mostly clouds and fog but we did get a bit of sun near the end. We parked on Rte. 3 and walked down the embankment to the loop road and the start of the Hunters Brook Trail. This is another of Kelley's favorites because the first part closely follows the brook.

The trail then turns west and climbs through woods

to the Pemetic SE Trail which takes you over ledges to the Triad

where we had this view
Continuing down the Pemetic we met a nice family with two young children and this made Kelley happy. They had come up from the Day Mtn. parking area and we talked about the trails and they decided to also do the Hunters Brook and loop back to their car in the opposite direction we had come. We would continue down and then over Day and on to Hunters Beach.

On Day the fog seemed a bit less dense

At Hunters Beach we had lunch and enjoyed this view of Hunters Head. The person exploring the shore adds some perspective.

Kelley had a swim in the brook

and we took the Beach Trail back to Cooksey Dr. where we again met the family also completing their loop and then walked back to our car on Rte 3. a nice hike 3-1/2 hours

  2. Hi John, We were the family with the 2 children Kelley and you met up with on the trail. I think our children were just as excited as Kelley about one another. This was a terrific loop and we enjoyed lunch at the beach under the fog. We had great gratitude for the fog. We appreciated your advice about the rocky section above the beach. We only seemed to get turned around once or twice. Very nice meeting Kelley and you! Cyndi O'Brien, Matt, Sean, and Adele Weaver of Bath, ME

  3. It was very nice meeting all of you too and it was a great loop. I was impressed that your small children were such good hikers. Thanks for posting a comment.
