Finding Trail Descriptions

So as not to repeat myself excessively, I am reducing the amount of description of trails that have already been posted. Please use the search function ( upper left) to find older posts which have more detailed trail descriptions and pictures. You can also use this to find specific hikes either by trail or mountain.

9/21/13 Hidden Ponds

Cool and mostly cloudy but no rain - that's supposed to happen tomorrow. A man we had met on the Tunk Trail sent me copies of area maps and we decide to explore the area beyond Tilden Pond.

A pano of Tilde- click it for the big picture

Tilden Pond  9-21-13
From Tilden we took the trail we hoped would take us to Spring River Lake. The trail was fairly dense woods and pretty but a bit wet in spots

An interesting fungus I could not identify

Kelley waiting for me- she was ahead of me most of the way to the lake

We were on the right trail and the lake was very large.

We were looking for the continuation of the trail up McCabe Mtn. and we met two nice people who were taking that trail and invited us along. They also had a dog and this made Kelley happy. The trail was not long or difficult.

Views form ledge below the summit which we were told was wooded and did not offer views.

We left our new hiking friends to have their lunch and returned to Tilden pond to try another tail. This proved more difficult as there were more trails than shown on the map and we could not tell them apart.  We will do more exploring next time we come here.

When one trail turned into a large pool we turned back- Kelley was willing but I wasn't.

We went to the pond to have our lunch and after we ate our friends from earlier caught up with us. The dogs had a good time playing. Bhakti loves the water too and both dogs were in and out as well as doing a lot of running around.

I did manage to get a couple of Bhakti and Kelley together- not the best shots but they were barely still.

The hikers and Kelley watching Bhakti continue to play

We then all hiked out together.

One more picture of Bhakti running back to rejoin us.

A very good hike with new things to see, nice people, another dog for Kelley, and lots of water.

    1. Thanks Faith - The woman we met knows fungi but I saw it when we were apart. I'm hoping she will stop by and ID it.
