Beautiful sunny day- 50's when we started and 60's at the end- it doesn't get much better weather-wise . Wanted something not too soggy so decided on a rail-trail. We had done this one several times from each end, both winter and summer but had never reached Dexter so we decided to start there. In town, by the Irving station we found the trail and start next to Lake Wassookeag.
Kelley soon found a way in
Like most of the rail-trails this one was wide and essentially flat- mostly a walk through woods
Near the start we came upon some wildflowers I had not seen before- Wild Snapdragons. They were in several shades of pink
There were other water opportunities for Kelley, including streams. ponds and smaller pools
More wildflowers
Mud Pond was fairly large and difficult to photograph as the area around it was boggy and there were lots of reeds and brush. I took shots for a three shot panorama - click the pic for large version
The really nice weather and the fact it was Sunday had a negative effect- there were lots of ATV's ( we had seldom met anyone on previous hikes) and they were a distraction- but they were nice people and everyone of them slowed down as they passed us. Kelley caught on to the routine and began, when she saw one coming, sitting by the side of the trail with me.
Overall a good day with a nice long hike. 3 3/4 hours
Nice to see there's still some wildflowers hanging in there!
