So as not to repeat myself excessively, I am reducing the amount of description of trails that have already been posted. 6/9/10 Sargent Mountain

A glorious day-sunny, temps in the 60's, and a nice breeze- pretty much ideal hiking weather . We hadn't done anything rigorous for awhile so decided to climb Sargent on the Maple Spring Trail. This is a pretty trail but rocky with some tricky footing in parts. It also follows the stream much of the way so Kelley likes it.

We took a short detour to Gilmore Peak for an apple break. It's only about a tenth of a mile but gives the feeling of being on top of the world. We seldom see anyone here.

Kelley wanted to take Grandgent so we followed that instead of Maple Spring to the top.

We walked around the summit to see if there was any indication of a trail we had been trying to find but found none. This is the view looking north toward the area from which the trail originates.

We walked down the South Ridge Trail to the Hadlock Brook Trail and took that back to our starting point on Rt. 198. Kelley found some people when we crossed under a carriage road but we met had only one man on the trails today. 3-3/4 hours

  1. Very nice! We took our kids hiking around Jordan pond that day. It was so pretty out. I think my husband and I will be trying Penobscot MT soon.

  2. Thanks for your comment. I like Penobscot too, especially the newly re-opened route from the Asticou which avoids that very steep rock climb ( which Kelley can't do) at the start of the usual route.
