Finding Trail Descriptions

So as not to repeat myself excessively, I am reducing the amount of description of trails that have already been posted. Please use the search function ( upper left) to find older posts which have more detailed trail descriptions and pictures. You can also use this to find specific hikes either by trail or mountain.

3/15/10 Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge

Forecasts for our usual places (but not here) were all for rain and/or snow and rain and high wind advisories so we decided to explore close to home. The 10,000 acre refuge is a little over 20 miles from home. We walked the McLaughlin Road (gated) from Stud Mill Road and it was a pleasant and easy walk. Mostly woods except for a marshy area. We found only one of the trails on the map and it was not marked. We walked a couple of short tracks but mostly stuck to the road. We walked for an hour and then turned around and returned to the car. There are other trails to be explored.

Kelley was able to find some water deep enough to get really wet.

  1. You must have a ton of maps of the area around you.

  2. Most I get online. A didn't post for this one because there wasn't anything to it. Mary told me about Sunkhaze many of the others are either places people told me about or I found in hiking books.
