2/1/15 Snowmobile Trail Along the Kenduskeag

Cold ( about 12 degrees) but sunny and little wind. First I had to clear the drive of yesterday's snow so we could get out and then we looked for a place to hike. We went to City Forest but the road into the parking lot had not been plowed and then to Essex Woods but only one person had been on the trail and the snow was deep. Next try was this snowmobile trail which we access from the end of Pushaw Rd. - the road ends but there was a cleared spot to park.

There had not been a lot of trail use so it was not as packed as others we've been on lately but still not bad - a good work out. It's been so cold that the snow has  not been sticking to the trees - this time it did and  it was beautiful.

Almost back

Beautiful day - more comfortable than I thought it was going to be but also more of a slog. Kelley had an easier time walking except a few times she got in the deep snow beside the trail and quickly returned to the trail. It was also very peaceful as we met no one and the snow seems to make it quieter. 1  1/2 hours

  1. Beautiful!
It sure does make it a workout when the snow is deep.

  3. Love your photos John, and your blog is inspirational. My excursions have slowed in the cold/snowy conditions, but it won't be much longer and I'll be back out there. I hope to follow your example and do more with what I had intended to be my blog.

  5. So beautiful ! The snow on the trees is just spectacular! I love going out in the morning after it snowed over night and just "listen" to the peacefulness. There's something about the "sound" of snow...can't explain....it's like a sound you can feel...

What do you wear on your feet when you go on those snowy hikes?

    1. Thank you Serafina - or lack of sound you can feel- I agree that it's peaceful.

I just wear hiking boots. I don't like snowshoes and if the snow is that deep it could be a problem for Kelley
