8/6/13 Tunk Mountain
Another beautiful sunny day with temperatures in the 70's. A friend accompanied us to Tunk. The sign for Myrick Pond Rd. is gone but there are signs on the trees indicating 'Trail 502'. At short distance up the road you take the fork to the right - road in poor condition- to where the road becomes even worse and park by some boulders and walk the rest of the way to the trail head. There were some very good ripe blackberries along this road and we enjoyed them. Kelley also likes them and our friend taught Kelley to pick her own. There were also a few deer flies but once we got into the woods on the actual trail they were no more. The hike up the mountain is not steep but is a steady climb 'till you reach the ridge where you are rewarded with some very nice views.
from the north side of the ridge you can see this large wind farm
Kelley and friend
We hiked the ridge to the point where the trail drops down to the Hidden Ponds and then turned and returned the way we had come, stopping for lunch and enjoying the view. A very nice hike - 3 1/2 hours
