Cold ( 21 when we started and 23 when we finished) , mostly cloudy, but no wind. At the end of November we attempted this hike but found the Hogback section closed because of deer season which has now ended. We started from the Whitten Hill trail head and took the Northern Headwaters Trail with all it's old stone fences
to the Hemlock Hollow and that down to the Hogback Connector. On Hemlock Hollow we met a nice couple and their dog and talked trails for a bit. I told them about the dog following us last time we were here and they knew the dog.
The Connector took us to the Hogback Loop where we met another couple and their dog. We rarely meet anyone on these trail so it was an unusual day.
You get a wide view from the overlook but it's somewhat obscured by brush and trees
We also found these roots of a blown over tree
and , on an old woods road running off the trail we spotted this old tractor
We completed the loop and then took the connector back to the Bog Brook Trail, to the Eric Bruun, to the Whitten Hill, and back to the start.
A few other things we saw. There was lots of ice around
Turned out to be a good hike. Even though cold , the lack of wind made hiking comfortable. Kelley was a little frustrated that much of the water had ice on it but she has become braver about breaking it. Like me, she seemed happy to be on the trails. 4 hours
The picture of the ice bubbles is great. That one belongs in a frame!
