6/7/14 Little Long Pond

A beautiful sunny day - no rain ! The friend who is training for the Trek Across Maine rode over with us and biked the carriage roads while we did our hike. We started out from the parking lot above the Friends Path and walked down to the pond. Part way down, Kelley always takes off and is in the pond by the time I get down.

A man and his dog walked the first part of the West Side Trail with us but turned off before we reached the Jordan Stream Trail.

When we reached the bridge and had our apple break we decided to do a carriage road circuit and then return on the other side of the pond.

To that point we had only seen the man we walked with but soon started seeing more people and lots of dogs. This made Kelley happy- all the dog people stopped and gave her some attention. This was a very nice hike- especially after all the rainy days.  2  3/4 hours

  2. It is amazing how Kelley remembers all the trails and where the ponds are. She is very smart.

    1. Hi Kim- dogs apparently have good memory for place. I think she also uses scent to follow the trails but she goes directly to the spots we have our apple break or lunch and knows the places along streams where she can get in and out.
