Finding Trail Descriptions

So as not to repeat myself excessively, I am reducing the amount of description of trails that have already been posted. Please use the search function ( upper left) to find older posts which have more detailed trail descriptions and pictures. You can also use this to find specific hikes either by trail or mountain.

4/10/12 Hogback Overlook

Forecast is for cloudy with 20% chance of rain. We thought those were pretty good odds and headed for the Sheepscot Headwaters Trails to do the Hogback Overlook. We started on the spur from Halldale road to the Bog Brook > Hogback Connector> Hogback Overlook loop.

Kelley quickly found water.

These are all mostly pleasant, easy woods trails. There is a bit of a climb up to the overlook which is an open granite ledge that offers some views.

I think the soil is shallow in this area, not giving trees a chance to send roots very deep.

When we came off the loop at the Mountain Road we hoped to continue on the Georges Highland Path for a way as we had been thwarted when we tried it from the other direction (it had been close due to logging) . We quickly found that clearing is going on here too ( including, after the first two, the trees with blazes included).

Rather than try to sort out the trail we headed up the road to reconnect with the trail we had come in on and headed back.

W A pleasant hike except for the clearing activity. We had a mixture of sun and clouds with no rain. Kelley seemed happy to be in the woods, frequently running ahead and showing me the way. 3 1/4 hours

  1. Nice. The picture of Kelley by the falls looks like a Fall scene (with all the leaves).

  2. Thanks John - you are right about it looking like fall- there are an amazing amount of fall-like leaves everywhere.
