Finding Trail Descriptions

So as not to repeat myself excessively, I am reducing the amount of description of trails that have already been posted. Please use the search function ( upper left) to find older posts which have more detailed trail descriptions and pictures. You can also use this to find specific hikes either by trail or mountain.

7/13/11 Great Notch and Long Pond Trails

Cooler today ( 70's) and sunshine so we headed for Acadia. Though not optimistic decided to see if we could find some old trails. The Pretty Marsh Trail ( 623 on the map) started from the village of Pretty Marsh and ran to, and continues as, the Great Notch Trail. The end at the village is on private property so we started from the Great Notch trail head on the fire road. We did not spot the trial connection and continued on to see if we could find the Deep Brook Trail ( 601 on the map). For this one we even got off the trail near the stream crossing and bushwhacked a bit but didn't find traces of that one either. We continued on the Long Pond Trail to get to a place where Kelley could get in and have a good swim and then retraced our steps. Because I was focused on trying to spot traces of old trail I took only a few pictures.

This seems premature

These seemed an odd color

In spite of not finding any traces of old trail we had a nice hike. 2 3/4 hours

  1. I'm struck by the appearance of the (pine cones?)...interesting coloration.
