Finding Trail Descriptions

So as not to repeat myself excessively, I am reducing the amount of description of trails that have already been posted. Please use the search function ( upper left) to find older posts which have more detailed trail descriptions and pictures. You can also use this to find specific hikes either by trail or mountain.

6/30/11 Cedar Swamp Mountain


Mix of sun and clouds with comfortable temperatures. We started from the parking area at Brown Mountain Gatehouse and took the carriage road to the Sargent Mtn. trail to Cedar Swamp Mountain

After Cedar Swamp the trail drops ( 20 or 30 ft.) to Birch Spring and this is always a difficult spot for Kelley. Sometimes in winter we have had to turn back. After thinking it over we made it down today.



We then head back south on the Amphitheater Trail. This has some tricky footing but also follows the stream much of the way


We then took the carriage road to a small piece of the Penobscot Trail, to the Asticou, and that back to the Sargent and the carriage road back to the car. 3 1/2 hours

    Looks like rugged going in a couple places there. Is that a brain shaped tree stump in frame 6?

    I embarrassed to say I don't remember. I saw the pattern and colors, snapped the picture and moved on. It is an odd shape for a stump but...
