Finding Trail Descriptions

So as not to repeat myself excessively, I am reducing the amount of description of trails that have already been posted. Please use the search function ( upper left) to find older posts which have more detailed trail descriptions and pictures. You can also use this to find specific hikes either by trail or mountain.

6/5/11 McFarland and Breakneck

Route on McFarland is approximate as trails are not on the maps

Cool, sun, and clouds-a nice day for hiking. First we hiked up the road to the air quality station and then set off across the blueberry fields where the trail is evident. Once you reach the woods and grassy areas the trail is lost and found until you reach the ridge where it's again easy to follow. We spent some time looking for either the old route down to the Breaknecks or the trail to Youngs but found neither. Kelley kept looking at me as if to ask, "Do you know where you are going?"

We returned to our car and went to the Breakneck Road ( other end from that we did recently). This trail was wet in areas and has spots where the beaver have dammed streams and made pools of the trail. Kelley thought this was fine. We did a brief foray off trail in search of the old McFarland Trail from that end but again were unsuccessful. We did find a nice sunny spot for lunch and then returned the way we had come. A nice hike 1 hour for each segment.
