4/7/10 Caribou Mountain Loop
A gray day but temps in the 50's so good hiking. We started from Black Mtn. Road on the trail that goes by that name or "Big Chief". This trail rises steadily from the woods to open areas and a junction where we took the trail toward the cliffs
This trail dropped quickly to another junction with a trail toward Caribou Mtn.
Which starts out through pretty woods
But then drops steeply down between the mountains only to rise again to Caribou. The actual summit is not marked. The next pictures are of the open area that seemed to be the high point on the trail
We then dropped back down on the other side of the mountain and encountered some marshy areas and streams which made Kelley happy.
We climbed back up to Black Mountain and this view before taking the trail back to our car.
This was a an interesting but somewhat arduous hike with lots of gain and loss of elevation but no problems for Kelley until the steep sections coming off the summit of Black. But by then we were both tired. 4 -3/4 hours

John, I never knew the story behind Kelly. It is a very good story. Thanks for sharing it. The photos are stunning but I would expect no less from you.

Hi Allen
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments. Mary suggested I add Kelley's story. We are always telling it to people who are interested in her.
