We awoke to fresh snow. Only an inch or two at home. When we got to the forest we found three or four inches- only a couple of miles from "as the crow flies" .
We met a woman with her dog near the start but soon passed where she had turned around and the trail was unused. Still, the footing was pretty good as the base underneath had a chance to freeze overnight.
The side trails all have had little or no use and the snow is still quite deep and not supportive.
Charlie Brown Christmas tree
We tried the old rail bed but it was too soft and so returned on Main and the Loop Rds. where we met only one man. A nice little hike - temps in the lower thirties and no wind. Kelley like the loose snow and seemed to be her old self. The new snow made the woods pretty. 1 1/2 hours
Oh so pretty! Especially the little Christmas tree. Our mountains are supposed to get some snow over the weekend. And the ski areas will be closing next week. Go figure.....
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda- so maybe one more chance to ski? We have had rain all day today
DeleteThat little tree is so pretty!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how much snow you still have and STILL snows. When are you able to plant veggies? My husband has lived in Maine before and tells me the growing season is very short. I do hope I can grow veggies when we move there , haha .
Thank you Sarafina. The growing season is short but I start my seeds inside and grow the seedlings under lights until they can go outside. I also grow a lot of things in pots that i can pu along the drive where there is the most sun. Started my Asian vegetables and kale today.Third week in April will start pepper, eggplant and tomatoes. In may cucumbers, and squash. I also grow herbs and flowers so you will be able to grow most things.
DeleteOK, good, so there is hope, lol .
ReplyDeleteYes, Serafina - it will be fine.
