Finding Trail Descriptions

So as not to repeat myself excessively, I am reducing the amount of description of trails that have already been posted. 9/29/17 Branch Lake

Sunny, 50's, and breezy. The hot weather is thankfully behind us.  We had not been here in awhile so I thought I could interest Kelley.

A small stream on the way to the lake. Not much water.

The shore of the lake is mostly rocky and/or densely wooded

but Kelley finds ways to get in

Just some straw and leaves - hint of colors to come.

Finally some open water

A pleasant hour and a half - Kelley did well.

9/28/17 Kenduskeag Stream

Not a hike. Have been trying an every other day hike so this was just a trip to the stream for Kelley to get wet.

Not much color yet

and still a few wildflowers

No really deep water

Kelley was happy with the water and it's only about 3 miles from home.

9/27/17 City Forest

Kelley did not seem very interested in a hike so we just went to nearby City Forest. It was cloudy as we head across the meadow to the pond.

The trees are starting to change colors.

Still lots of chicory

The pond remains low

Cattails seemed to be exploding

Don't know these

There were a surprising number of bees about

Lagging behind on the Grouse Trail

Back at the pond

and another bee for me

The sun was coming out as we climbed back up the hill and the colors were nice

Kelley was not overly enthusiastic but we got in a pleasant hour.

9/25/17 Harbor Brook

Forecast at home is for upper 80's and for Acadia upper 70's so that's where we headed. Sixty seven degrees when we started.

Few wildflowers left and leaves are mostly still green so just a few pics of Kelley and some fungi.

In addition to low water a lot of trees have fallen across the stream.

We met two couples on the trail which was unusual but made Kelley happy. She did very well today, even going a bit beyond our usual turnaround point. It had been a pleasant hour and three quarters but was up to 87 degrees when we got back home - we are ready for real fall.

9/23/17 Caribou Bog

Going to get into mid 80's today so we got an early start. Kelley was not enthusiastic so instead of  our usual route through the woods I picked one that was the shortest distance to three pond.

A pretty morning in the woods

First pond

Still a few wildflowers

And a tiny hoverfly

Second pond

There were a bunch of these small frogs ( about 2 inches long) but none would give me a clear shot

Third pond

After that we turned back. Only a little over an hour but she got some exercise and got wet.

9/21/17 Perch Pond

Upper 60's and sunny - a beautiful day. We took a trail in that  we found out about last time we were here. Some pretty sections and better footing than some others.

At this point of the trail access for Kelley is not easy and she just went in far enough to get wet and a drink. She did not want to go further to better spots.

Few wildflowers or other vegetation and most leaves are still green so I took few pictures

A very pleasant little hike. Kelley did OK but didn't want a long hike.
