Thirty five, mix of sun and clouds, and a bit windy. Yesterday's trail had been a bit of a problem so we decided to try the snowmobile trail from Dover-Foxcroft - a little bit north and maybe still packed snow. This is a rail-trail that becomes part of the snowmobile network in winter.
There was an inch or less of new snow and someone on foot had used the very first part of the trail and then turned back. Beneath the new snow the surface was firm with good walking.
The river is still frozen
After a very short distance the other man's tracks stopped and there were only deer tracks
On this small stream the ice was starting to leave
After about an hour and a quarter we turned back the way we had come - point on map is approximate.
A nice hike. There was just enough new snow to make it all look fresh again, Kelley seemed to enjoy the nice surface, and we had it all to ourselves, meeting no one. 2 1/2 hours
