Mix of sun and clouds. Just above freezing but had rained overnight and we didn't know what conditions we would find. on the trails. The forest seemed our best bet - we could at least walk the roads.
Starting from the Sewall entrance the road was almost bare, but a little muddy - this section had been plowed in the past.
We were pleasantly surprised to find the side trails had a fairly firm section down the middle. Apparently the rain had packed the snow somewhat.
Lots of needles off the trees
Woodpecker work
We tried several of the trails and found them all pretty good walking.
On the way back we were on the section of Sewall that had not been plowed and it still had snow
This was a pleasant surprise with pretty good walking- step off the narrow trail and you were in a foot or more of snow. Kelley seemed to enjoy it though we only met one person- a woman running near the start. The woods are still pretty with the snow. 1 1/2 hours
I love to see snow shot, especially with trees. That woodpecker certainly was intent on finding food!
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting- those rectangular holes are made by pileated woodpeckers, the largest woodpeckers in N. America
DeleteCool shot of the woodpecker's handiwork!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kim - every once in awhile I see a pileated in my back yard
