Another day with alternating showers and sun and upper 40's. Sprinkles when we got up so when it stopped we head to Orono. We entered from Hillside Ave. because there is a pond right near the start that Kelley likes.
We had not been here in some time because of all the snow and were surprised when the trail abruptly ended at a huge construction project. We followed what looked like an old woods road
until we reached a regular road. We searched for the trail in both directions without success and turned back. No indications at the start of the trail or where it ended as to what's happening here.
We drove to the entrance at the end of Penobscot St. and followed that trail to the river. Sections of this trail had some trees harvested and the trail had lost some of it's attractiveness. When we reached the marshy area we again turned back.
Only some small tree buds as signs of spring. I did find a nice green lichen.
A disappointing outing in that this had been a nice nearby hike and was now diminished. There was, however, lots of water for Kelley and we did get in an hour and three quarters.
