Warmer and more humid so we headed for the island where it is often ten degrees cooler than inland.
Near the start of the Eliot Mt. Trail- It was still wet and muddy in spots but neither mosquitoes nor deer flies. There are lots of rocks and exposed roots to trip you up- the small stream beside the trail sometimes uses the trail
Eliot's summit is wooded without views but there is a ledge near the top that offers some.
They are doing a lot of work on the Asticou Trail and we met three crews along the short section we did. Kelley was happy to greet them.
When we got to the Harbor Brook Trail there were some mosquitoes and deer flies but that didn't last long and soon we were deer fly free again. The trails today were mostly wooded with few flowers or insects except in areas that got some sun.
Pretty good hike- water for Kelley ( she really liked the Harbor Brook) , mostly deer fly free, and still in the 70's when we finished- got into the upper 80's back home. 2 1/2 hours
Sounds like a lovely day. Perfect temps too.
