10/29/10 Good News

More x-rays today and I am now allowed weight bearing ( with a walking boot for the first two weeks) so we are headed toward hiking again. I have decided to post some pictures from hikes we did prior to starting the blog.The first batch are from October 14,2009. We went to Little Moose Public Reserved Lands near Greenville and were surprised to find snow . Even the roads were beautiful.


When I backed up to take this picture I backed into a ditch and ended up with the front wheels up in the air ( front wheel drive). As I was trying to fill in the ditch with rocks a man in a jeep came along ( the only person we saw all day) and helped us,eventually resorting to a chain to pull us out.

The hike took us up along a ridge and we encountered even more snow.






In spite of the auto mishap ( and I was worried we might spend the day in that ditch ) it was a hike magically transformed by the first snow of the year.

10/28/10 A new photo Story

I'm still not able to hike.

There is still some Borage left in the yard


A good friend suggested I keep posting even though I'm still not able to walk. He thinks,otherwise, people may think I have abandoned the blog.
It has been a nice fall even though the colors are not very dramatic this year. I'm doing a lot of reading , talking with my friend on the computer, and making Photo Stories. Here is a link to one of them.

10/15/10 Still not mobile

I have, at least , a couple more weeks of non weight bearing. To keep my sanity I have been making photo stories. Kelley has been going over to Gracie's most days so that is good for her and makes me feel better.


I have found a new place to host the stories. This one is of flowers of succulents I've grown over the years.

10/4/10 Still Stuck at Home

Still hobbling around with my cast but I go in Wednesday for X rays and hopefully more mobility. Kelley says she is tired of hanging around the house or walking slowly while I wheel along. But today she got a treat and is over visiting her friend Gracie.

We have not yet had a frost and my peppers are ripening with the extended season. It's usually hard for me to get sweet peppers (and some others) to ripen in our short season. I'm continuing to document the one's I've grown.

9/22/10

Nice fall weather but I'm still stuck at home. Kelley got to go to Acadia Saturday with Mary . Sunday we wheeled around the neighborhood and then watched football and ate some popcorn--she loves it. Monday and Tuesday she went to the nursing home and today she is over playing with Grace so it's been not too bad for her.

I'm still documenting peppers, freezing them, and saving seeds. I have squeezed in a few more pepper plants in anticipation of coming frost and brought in some more basil.

One positive thing about being stuck at home is that I am catching up on documenting this years peppers.Also brought more plants inside: peppers, rosemary, Mexican Oregano, Kefir Lime. Still need to bring in the ginger-pot is too heavy for me- and some columnar basil plants and a couple more peppers. Once I am mobile I will use hanging baskets to pot up thyme, oregano, and sage for winter use.

Kelley is not too excited by this activity but yesterday I wheeled over to another neighbors so she could play with Sarge and today she got to visit Grace for a few hours and had super with her. Tomorrow Mary is taking her to Acadia which is her favorite place to go.
