Sunny and 22 degrees but the wind made it feel colder. Picked this area because there are several trails nearby to choose from and more chances to find one in descent shape. The first we checked was OK.
There had been use by a skier and a couple of hikers.Light fluffy snow on a firm crust.
This section of the N. Headwaters trail , with it's old stone walls, is my favorite on this hike.
Decided to try Hemlock Hollow and found it had little use and slippery parts which only increased as we descended. When I fell we turned back. No harm done. Fell again and broken my walking stick (that's all) which seemed to prove we made the right decision.
We went a little farther on N. Headwaters but it seemed like enough for Kelley and we headed back.
Nice hike. Pretty woods and we had to ourselves until we met a couple and their dog at the end. Kelley did well and was enthusiastic. 1 1/4 hours
John, sounds like you had quite a time out there. You're fortunate to come out of those falls unharmed. Hope you carry a cellphone.
