Finding Trail Descriptions

So as not to repeat myself excessively, I am reducing the amount of description of trails that have already been posted. Please use the search function ( upper left) to find older posts which have more detailed trail descriptions and pictures. You can also use this to find specific hikes either by trail or mountain.

5/15/16 City Forest

Off and on rainy day so when it looked like it was clearing we headed to the forest for an hour. We just walked down to the pond and then a ways down West Trail.

First stop - the beaver pond

A dandelion, while waiting for her - we saw no other wildflowers

Reeds along the pond

 Old leaf

Doing her water shake

There were quite a few new leaves but other than these  I managed to get them badly out of focus.

On the way back

In Michigan, where I grew up, Robins were thought to be a sign of spring. This sign is distracting but there it was. Parts of the forest are university study areas, hence the sign.

Last time before we head up the hill

Turned out pretty well. No bugs?? , didn't rain again until we got home.

  1. You're getting pretty good at photographing your surroundings while you wait for Kelley! Nicely shot and, of course, happy to see your furry companion.

  2. Things are finally greening up although I guess you wouldn't know if if you lived in Caribou..4.5 inches of snow..what's up with that? How has Kelley The Wonder Dog been doing? I've got to keep better tabs on her...

    1. I just don't know about this weird weather. Kelley is slowing down - will be 9 in August and we have cut back on the hikes. I kind of take her cues as to when and how long. Trying a new pain med. Thanks for asking about her.

  3. Always a treat when there are NO BUGS!
And personally, after this weekend, I'm ready to swat my robins with a flyswatter. Snow. Wind. It was ANYTHING but spring.
Have a great BUGLESS week (ha-we both know it was a fluke having a day with no bugs!)

    1. Hi Sue- only got to the 40's yesterday but at least no snow. Weird weird weather. Last year we had no black flies but we had had a severe winter. Have bug spray in my pack.

  4. Do you have many ticks in your area? We have a lot of them in both Illinois and Kentucky.

    1. We do - I use a product you spray on your cloths and it seems to work well - Permethrin - get it at Wal Mart

    2. Yes, that's what I use too. Ticks seem to love me tho. :-(

    3. Hmm - I started using after coming home with 7 or 8 from one hike - haven't really had any since.
