12/12/13 Walden Parke and the Veazie Rail Bed

Cold and a bit windy ( 9 degrees with wind chill of 1) but nice and sunny. I thought a nice quick hike at Walden would be enough for today.

We started on the Loop Trail and there is water near the start

The Loop Trail took us to the old rail bed and I got another picture of a weed I couldn't get close too last time ( ice to stand on this time)

Once we got moving I was pretty comfortable and Kelley was very happy, prancing at times. We decided to continue on the rail bed to see how far we could get this time

Last time we were stopped by a still running stream across the trail. Today that was passable but then we came to another which was not- at least by me.

The trees beside the bed are different at this end

and a shot across the marsh

We took the rail bed back to the snowmobile trail that Kelley likes to take, to the short trial to the other side of the Loop trail, and back to the car.

It turned out to be a nice 2 hour hike. Pretty and quite and much more comfortable than anticipated.  We didn't meet anyone on this hike

  1. Looks like a nice trek--surprised you weren't cold! I've been cold for days! 3 degrees right now

    1. Hi Faith - I thought it would be uncomfortable and planned a very short outing- maybe I'm getting adapted to winter- next couple of days supposed to be very cold and lots of snow- don't know what we will do.
