Finding Trail Descriptions

So as not to repeat myself excessively, I am reducing the amount of description of trails that have already been posted. Please use the search function ( upper left) to find older posts which have more detailed trail descriptions and pictures. You can also use this to find specific hikes either by trail or mountain.

7/2/10 Bernard Mountain

Another nice day. We started at the trail head on Western Mountain Rd. The Bernard West Ledge Trail is probably the most open of the western mountains. It begins in woods but then crosses several open ledges with nice views before returning to the woods.

From the West Ledge we took the South Face Trail down to Mill Field and the Sluiceway Trail back up the mountain ( we had done this loop in the opposite direction and knew we would be climbing most of the mountain twice). The Sluiceway begins as a pretty woods walk

but then becomes steep and rocky most of the way to Little Notch

where we took the Bernard Mountain Trail to the summit ( wooded) and then back down to the West Ledge and that to where we had begun. 3-1/4 hours

We then drove to the Pretty Marsh picnic area to have our lunch by the water.
