3/12/15 Glenburn Snowmobile Trails - Again

Sunny but spring is over and we are back in the twenties. This time we took a trail that we had tried earlier in the winter but were stopped by ice we did not trust on the streams.

We started  from Hudson Rd. and followed the trail across Lancaster Bk. Rd. toward the streams.

This time we were comfortable crossing the ice

First Lancaster Brook

and then the Kenduskeag Stream

We continued on the trail

to Broadway where we turned back, deciding we wold return tomorrow and continue the trail from there.

A very pleasant hike- good footing, sunshine, pretty woods, and again we had it all to ourselves  2  1/2 hours 

3/11/15 Glenburn Snowmobile Trails

Upper 40's to 50 and sunny with some clouds - if not for all the snow you might think it was spring. We decided to check out a branch we had not been on on the past. We started from our usual spot on Hudson Rd. and a familiar trail.

The woods were pretty - very little snow has melted but the surface was softer but still not bad.

A short ways after crossing Pushaw Rd. we took the trail to the left which we had not been on before - it has a sign saying " Dead End"

We ended up in a lot behind a business and turned back the way we had come.

A beautiful day. Again we had the trails to ourselves. 2  1/4 hours 

3/10/15 Paul Bunyan Snowmobile Trails - Part II

Upper 20's and cloudy. I had to draw in parts of the trails on the map so they are approximate.

The hike starts at a the end of Fox Hollow Rd. and across a grass land bird sanctuary - no dogs April through August.

The actual trail starts on the left,  almost to the marshy area, and goes through some pretty woods,

follows a utility easement a short ways, and then turns onto the old rail bed

We also took a side trail a short distance - it seems to have been rerouted as I remember it being all open fields.

When we reached the large marsh we turned back

Kelley wanted to take a different trail from the rail bed and we did

A nice one. The footing was good, the woods were pretty and it was quiet as we met no one  2  1/2 hours

3/9/15 Paul Bunyan Snowmobile Trails

Nineteen and cloudy. These trail start across a large field - luckily no wind today.

The trail then follows a utility easement for some distance and the scenery is not very exciting so I took lots of pictures of things ( and Kelley)  in the snow.

You then come into some woods

The trails have been rerouted here and we did a little loop to get back to the trail we came in on.

This trail ( going to Glenburn ) we passed by - to explore another day

Pretty nice hike. The temperatures were moderate and it was very peaceful as we met no one. Kelley was out in front most of the way as she is when she is enthusiastic.  2  3/4 hours 

3/8/15 DeMeritt Forest

Nineteen and overcast. I didn't feel like a long drive or hike so we headed to Demeritt. This time we started from the Logan Rd. entrance. The road was not plowed but had had enough use to make for good footing.

We found the side trails had been groomed and were in good shape

When we came to the point where the Green Trail curves to circle  back to Logan we saw that the skiers had continued straight. We soon found out why- there had been some timber harvesting and the trail was torn up

The Blue Trail and Spring Rd. were in good shape

Back on Sewall we spotted some deer. They watched us for awhile but I didn't get a close shot because Kelley started barking  ( which she does when excited) and the deer went into the woods.

A pleasant hike. Temperatures were more moderate and we even got some peeks of sun. Very pretty and peaceful as we didn't meet anyone. 1  3/4 hours
