12/2/14 Hidden Ponds

Sunny but 30 degrees colder than yesterday. Winter weather warning for tonight and tomorrow - snow, sleet and freezing rain so we wanted to get in a good one today.

Twenty one degrees

Most of the snow was gone from the trails

but the bog bridges were a bit icy

Once we got past the Loop Trail to the trail to Tilden Pond ( no longer maintained) there was more snow - shadier I think - and soon no tracks but deer.

Tilden pond

The trail to Spring River Lake has some very wet sections but there is a side trial to bypass much of it if you can find it in the snow - Kelley eventually found it .

The trail then became the snowiest section of trail

When we reached the lake Kelley was disappointed to find a skin of ice along the shore

We took the trail back and I was going to skip the Loop Trail but Kelley wanted to go that way so we did.

Another Little Long Pond

A pretty day if you didn't mind the cold - it never got out of the low 20's but we got in 3 hours in anticipation of tomorrow being an easy day.
