Uncertain weather, garden work to be done, didn't feel like a long drive - so off to nearby Orono. This time we were actually able to follow the trails ( we started from the end of Penobscot Street) and end where we wanted to be-- along the river. A pleasant day with few insect pests and pleasant temperatures. These are some of the things we saw.
There were large patches of milkweed and some monarchs but most of the flowers were not yet open.
After we finished the main hike we went over to the pond near the Hillside Ave. trail head so kelley could have a real swim. 2 hours
Are there fewer pest (biting) insects this year in your experience? I was surprised at Sunkhaze and in Medford recently that I was not seriously bothered by them.
ReplyDeleteHi Faith - it varies and seems hard to predict- City Forest had a lot of deer flies the other day- some days we encounter lots of mosquitoes and other days( today at Long Pond) very few-
ReplyDeleteDeer flies are plentiful in my area. Does anyone know what the winged insect in your first picture is? Any entomologists? A type of fly?
